KIND OF PERSON
I’m not the kind of person who gets his shoes shined
but go to the plastic box at the bottom of my closet
with the waxes and brushes to do it myself
But I’m also not the kind of person who
works outside all day in the sun getting leathery and
prematurely brown with ox-drawn plows or more
intricate machinery
Nor either he who in brushed cotton and gold tie sits behind a
desk in windowed or windowless cubicles
shifting and prioritizing sheaves of papers
Nor yet he who wanders totally free of well just about
everything through our streets or back alleys leaning down for
bent cigarette butts or scraps
And yet neither in light cotton ministering in
Africa or Asia for the downtrodden with
books and medicines wan smiles and malaria
In fact I’m not so many kinds of persons
similar I imagine to so many
others who are also not so many kinds of
persons in full length or handheld mirrors
or no mirrors but the sky itself on a
clear or cloudy day
upright or supine on this rolling earth
somewhere in a convergence and confluence of
stars and other mighty influences
A palpitation in the void
An anthology of godly and ungodly characteristics
forever tipping the balance one way or the other
wishing for the Clear Entrance and the
Perfect Satisfaction
Hoping for the Best Outcome in a bewilderment of
Options
leaving behind everything at last
to go one step forward as the very person we are
in darkness or light
for all eternity

MashaAllah! Habibi Abdal-Hayy makes it to the blogosphere, it won’t be the same again! Looking forward to your updates here!
ps. I hear you’ve been linked up in DeenPort’s Blogtracker!
Masha Allah, another wonderful blog i will have to keep track of
Masha Allah, beautifull. And in particular
‘An anthology of godly and ungodly characteristics
forever tipping the balance one way or the other’. Because the heart has many loves i guess. We hope that one love will overcome all others, or even that this one love will the source and purpose of other loves.
ps I’m not the kind of person who searches through mountains of clothes and things in this modern day extravagance called shopping – buying and having much but nothing to fill the emptiness!
This is great too!
