TINY THREAD
A planetoid was about to be born in
some fairly distant galaxy from ours
invisible to our eyes due to stellar interference or
existing just beyond an obstructive lip of space-time curve
or sheer distance past every known patch of stars
and its mother star its solar womb was enduring all the
mysterious explosive cyclotronic gas-bang convulsive
combustions such procedures [...]

NO SLEEP
Something in me doesn’t want to sleep
I might wake up in the rubble of Berlin
or marooned on an island wearing shoes
or after everyone has left the train as it
chugs its desolation through the Alps
Or the light has gone out of the world
And the tea set for the saints in their crystalline robes
has no place [...]

A STONE HITS THE GROUND
A stone hits the ground and
wonders how it got there
A house stands on its foundations
welcoming its guests
A gust of wind turns a corner
and thinks itself clever
A river roars from its source
yelling all the way to the sea
Corks and people float on the world
thinking they’re top bananas
Bananas hide in their skins from [...]

CHAPTER 1
Abdallah Jones jumped off the train as it drew near the
trestle with the glass ball of disappearing dust in
his hand
which he had just snatched from the evil magician who
drew strange symbols on a tray of sand
preparing to make all the people in the world disappear!
Abdallah had been trying to get into his castle [...]

NOAH’S MUSIC
Prophet Noah fell in love with rain
Its pounding on the ark roof struck his
heartbeats like a tuning fork
Its white watery streaks coming down from a
black sky womb in incessant sheets
The joy of all those aquatic animals and
water birds the silly penguins and
sleek torpedo seals and weasels
God’s Voice-waves audible in lengthy water music
This absolute [...]

EVERYONE’S GIVEN THEIR OWN SET OF EYES
Everyone’s given their own set of eyes
to see through
from the lake of the heart its mercury mirror
aslant slightly to tilt back God’s Light
which is what we see by that small
special glitter in the eyes visible to
other eyes and their actual illumination
by which we see the gliding black
red-beaked bird that [...]

The Cloak of the Saint

THE CLOAK OF THE SAINT
1
The cloak of the saint was filled with roses
The cloak of the saint rose above the city
The cloak of the saint was thrown over the back of a chair
it slowly filled with a human form
it was filled with the sound of wind
It floated down the mountainside
sheep it passed turned golden
Rocks glowed [...]

OUT OF A DRIP A WHOLE WORLD
Out of a drip a whole world comes floating into view
like creatures in an aquarium the
glare of the glass blinding us gargantuan and
minute things crawl through the water
whole islands of life ringed by coral reefs and atolls
from a tiny drop no bigger than the tear that’s
sliding from your eyes [...]

O SHARP WIND
O sharp wind
(turning corners ruffling hair)
you’ve traveled from so far to get here
whipped water into waves enhancing the
work of the deep machinery of churning currents
blown coats equally of diplomats and dipsomaniacs
sculpted the outlines of elephants and ants (who miraculously
hold to the ground till you pass)
your invisible gunshots blowing holes and flinging debris
loosening roofs [...]

IF WE FELT THE EARTH MOVE UNDER US
If we felt the earth move under us
in its flow
wherever it goes
If we sometimes almost had to hold on
as the globe turned
and could sense its revolutions its fleet
swiftness round its axis and even
forward through space as well
riding it
as we walked to the corner grocery or
crossed a street [...]
