Poem: Gulp

Everything all at once takes a pause
then resumes again

We can’t see or feel it most times
a crack the size of the cosmos

sealed up in an illusion of continuous flow
a pause between one breath and the next

that includes every star no matter
how far away and every sun long

beyond eye- ear- or any-shot
a gulp that isn’t quite a

gulp or a blink that doesn’t mean a
moment exactly of darkness

so infinitesimal a break no worm
or wombat feels anything at all

But what could heave itself
between one living existence and the next is so

monumentally gigantic so beyond any
conception of infinitude

And there and on both and all sides
is Allah and there He on all sides also isn’t

O sweet Mercy O sweet rain of
elements sweet God of it all

That we exist at all O God
in this rush!

How is it I came here a minute ago… in search of a new poem.. disappointed not to find one… stepping away not closing the page… and returning to find my souls request.

“And there and on both and all sides is Allah” …..I need look no further…

    Thank you

    “on all sides also isn’t…”

how beautiful that God is not some plaything, not some petty idol, not some self-serving figment of our own desire for love, lust, or the luxury of “world peace. ” and yet god is also right there. closer to us than our wildest dreams.

    how liberating.

    now comes the hard part…

    or the easy bit…

    thank yah!

  3. khlftide says:

    dear beloved ones of poetry,

please know that when I say “the luxury of world peace” I mean that sometimes we like to the use the word “peace” to mean– “cool. everything is peaceful, so I don’t have to worry about the man, woman, and 2.6 children next door.” I believe peace is the active giving of love (not asking for it) and care to everyone around you. and so, it takes hard work. or not.

  6. Irving says:

Just perfect, as life is perfect, and a gift, as life is a gift 🙂

I know that feeling, between one breath and the next, of the abyss, which is another way of saying eternity, death, nothingness and everythingness, and always, there is the face of Allah.

Thank you, brother, for this crack of awareness 🙂
